You have to understand that you need to make yourself valuable in front of the prospective employer in order to achieve that the best combination that can in most of the cases will ensure that you get a guaranteed job is combination of SIA door supervisor, CCTV and emergency first aid at work qualifications. Let’s take the example of a major supermarket, you see a security officer standing there, he obviously needs a door supervision and not security guarding licence because most of the supermarkets are licensed premises. Sometimes that security operative comes and stands behind a CCTV booth, in order for him to do that he requires a CCTV qualification and relevant licence. Obviously if you are an employee of a security company they will send a person who has multiple qualifications, this will ensure that they can save resources both in terms of manpower which will ensure financial savings.

Do I need to do the complete CCTV training if i have a security guard or door supervisor certificate?

The CCTV training has three modules the first module is common amongst all three SIA qualifications i.e. door supervision, security guarding and CCTV. The common module is working in private security industry. If you have done the door supervision or security guarding qualification after October 2010 and you are in possession of the certificate the training for you will be for three days rather than four days, plus you would be exempted from one exam.

How do I apply for my SIA licence?

In order to apply for your your SIA licence you can do so by going to he SIA website and filling the online application form available on their website. Once you are going to fill that up you will receive an reference number, you need to take that reference number to participating post offices and get the application processed over the post office counter.

Are my chances of job going to increase with the CCTV qualification?

Your job prospects would be greatly increased as majority of the buildings and sites would have a CCTV and in order to operate that equipment that would require a licensed security operative. No agency or company would send two people i.e. a separate security guard or door supervisor and some one else to look after the CCTV, take the example of all these supermarkets where you see the same person doing the job of a CCTV operator and door supervisor.
